Tokyo is Japan’s modern, bustling heart. But it’s also packed with traditional spots dating back to the days of the samurai, so if you don’t set a plan, even days won’t be enough to see it all.

Let’s start with a few places you should check out first.

Akihabara (Steins;Gate, Love Live!)

Akihabara, or “Akiba” for short, is a paradise for anime, manga, and gaming fans.

The streets are lined with colorful shops selling figures, merch, and electronics, while maid cafés and themed restaurants add to the quirky fun.

It’s the kind of place where you can spend hours just wandering and still feel like you’ve barely scratched the surface.

It’s famous for its bright red gates and stunning architecture, but also for its anime collaborations, special “IT protection” charms for your electronics, and even ema (wooden prayer plaques) decorated with fan art.

For otaku travelers, it’s the perfect mix of tradition and pop culture—where you can snap shrine selfies and still feel that samurai-era atmosphere.
